Funicular  Sunnegga/Rothorn Funicular Friday 28-Sep-2018   Pre-Trip Activity Notes / Checklist The Sunnegga-Rothorn valley station lies about 10 minutes’ walk from Zermatt railway station. A tunnel leads deep into the mountain to the funicular station. Pick a clear day for another mountain journey you won’t soon forget. In Zermatt you’ll board a funicular that climbs through the centre of the mountain to Sunnegga. From there you can a gondola over Alpine pastures to Blauherd. And lastly, from Blauherd you can hop on a state-of-the-art cable car, with space for 100 passengers in each cabin, for an epic ride to the top of Unterrothorn. Once again, there’s a restaurant on the summit, and the views of the Matterhorn, glaciers and Monte Rosa massif are almost too good to be true on clear days.     Photos (4)
